Mother’s Day MILF

Kids always have the best things to say. Here are a few Mother’s Day wishes I have collected over the years from some very insightful children.

“Dear Mother, I’m going to make dinner for you on Mother’s Day. It’s going to be a surprise. P.S. I hope you like pizza & popcorn,” shares eight year old Angie.

Robert simply wrote, “I got you a turtle for Mother’s Day. I hope you like the turtle better than the snake I got you last year.”

And it was young Eileen who shared, “Dear Mother, I wish Mother’s Day wasn’t always on Sunday. It would be better if it were on Monday so we wouldn’t have to go to school.”

Diane simply stated, “I hope you like the flowers I got you for Mother’s Day. I picked them myself when Mr. Smith wasn’t looking.”

And perhaps most intuitive is Carol who offered, “Dear Mother, Here are two aspirins. Have a happy Mother’s Day!”

Without a doubt, mothers play a tremendous role in our lives. This can be seen in the fact that the greatest number of long distance phone calls are made on Mother’s Day; while the largest number of collect calls are made on Father’s Day.

It is also evident in the prison system. When inmates are offered a chance to send their mothers a card they all jump at the occasion. When the same offer is made on Father’s Day very few, if any, take advantage of the cards.

We find in the Hebrew scripture a reference God makes to motherly love. In a beautiful promise during a time of great national challenge God tells the children of Israel, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13). The loftiest model of love is from mothers.

Sociologist Tony Campolo once asked some fifty people over the age of 95 what they would differently if they could do it all over again. The top three answers were: reflect more, risk more, and do more things that will outlast me.

One of the most lasting things we can do is show admiration for the women in our lives. Short and to the point the Apostle Paul simply shares, “Husbands, love your wives” (Ephesians 5:25). He goes on to define this love as incredibly sacrificial and honoring.

So to all the moms who deserve all the accolades in the world for taking on the tremendously challenging job you do, thank you and Happy Mother’s Day!
